Against the backdrop of the novel Coronavirus global pandemic, unsung heroes are keeping the world connected – allowing the rest of us to be productive, calm, and mentally healthy. These heroes are the essential workers of the communications industry, which spans telecommunications, cable, and internet providers.
With initially millions, and now billions of employees and students forced to work from home, there could have easily been a communication and connectivity gridlock. Gridlock at this fragile state of public quarantine would have devastating negative impacts across the spectrum of society. Employees couldn’t be productive, students couldn’t access their online learning platforms, the populous would be unable to stay up to date with the latest Covid-19 information, and friends and family would be painfully isolated from loved ones.
There are many obstacles that our communication professionals are overcoming. The obvious major one is the massive disruption to critical infrastructure and equipment supply chains coming out of Asia. The most frightening obstacle, however, is the virus itself. Countless communication industry workers are risking their own lives by continuing to serve the public in potentially dangerous environments to keep the networks up and running smoothly.
This workforce dedication across the spectrum of the communications industries are doing something that is heroic for the entire population of earth — keeping people safe, connected, productive, and healthy. Their diligence is helping companies continue to provide cell coverage, videoconferencing and internet for generations of people that would suffer greatly without these crucial connectivity services.
For that, Fulcrum would like to salute each and every one of you.
